This weekend was our Phase 2 kickoff "retreat" in Mount Washington of Pittsburgh. We were able to get away from the office for a few hours and celebrate what we have accomplished in such a short amount of time. The launch on August 1st was a victory to us and it meant we finally took the next step. It was only a minor victory in our long trek, but it was still a victory.
As a start-up, we are constantly trading blows with all the factors that keep most people from actually attempting to start a business and all the factors that keep many businesses from succeeding. Throughout the journey, it is sometimes hard to take your mind off of tomorrow and just enjoy today.
In a recent blog by one of my heroes, Richard Branson, he discusses how important it is to take some time to realize each big step. In my opinion, he is the icon when it comes to being an entrepreneur. If you have some time, I suggest reading about him. The man lives on a different level (i.e. he bought the planet Pluto last year).
It has been a very long time since we just relaxed, let our hair down, and celebrated a moment with all the people that helped us get there. I once believed that intentionally depriving yourself of something enjoyable would make you appreciate it a little more in the end. Although that may be true, I now know it is extremely important for the company to celebrate every step.
There will be many more to come...
