Hoist the colors...

I heard somewhere that entrepreneurs should wear their mistakes like a badge of honor.  It assures them that they have been there before, but to never repeat the same action that resulted in failure.

We have made many, many mistakes.  And we will make many more in the future.  The trick is to be right on the BIG decisions.

If we make the adjustments on the minor mistakes, we will be better prepared for the other ones that are harder to recover from.

One mistake I would like to mention happened approximately 2 1/2 years ago.  We spent valuable time and resources on a bus that would give our members the chance for FREE transportation around the city if they supported our participating businesses.  It was known as the "BUSANOVA".
Since "Nova" means "New", our tagline was "It's the NEW way to bar hop"

The bus had a trackable GPS device, so members would be able to go to our website and view the absolute current location of the bus.  Also, the member would receive a text message once it was in their area.

To be honest, it sounds like a good idea ON PAPER.  But an IDEA is not enough.  The product had flaws - insurance, alcohol related issues, traffic, fuel expenses, legal, public transporation laws, and many more.

We spent a bunch of money and time trying to make this work.  It didn't.  This was a mistake on a minor issue.

The lesson:  The IDEA has to be strong.  The product has to be stronger.

..And to have a great product, you need a great team.  We know this now...and we do.

Hoist the Colors!...
